Rolling Mills Operating Committee and Bokaro Steel Plant welcome deligates to 52nd Rolling Mill Operating Committee Meeting to be held during 14-15 Feb 2019

51st RMOC meeting, Jan 10-11, 2018 at BSP, SAIL, Bhilai  

The 51st Rolling Mills Operating Committee (RMOC) meeting was held at BSP,SAIL, Bhilai during 10th and 11th of January 2018. The theme of this meet was “Performance and Quality improvement in rolling mills”. The RMOC offers a unique platform for exchange of ideas and information among the rolling mills fraternity, particularly for those dealing with day-to-day operation in the mill.

Shri Biswarup Saha, GM Incharge Mills, BSP and Chairman, 51st RMOC delivered the welcome address and Shri S K Mohapatra, Secretary, RMOC apprised the audience about RMOC activities, through Secretary’s Report. Shri T B Singh, ED(Works), BSP informed about the various rolling mills of BSP and emphasized on improving the hot hours per day in mills. Shri M Ravi, CEO, BSP inaugurated the meet. He advised the participants to devise ways and means to reduce cost in spite of existing challenges. He also emphasized on inter disciplinary solutions irrespective of one’s background.

The first technical sessions on ‘Rail Rolling’ was chaired by Shri S R Babu, GM & Chief Technologist (Mills), RDCIS. The second technical session on ‘Structural Rolling’ was chaired by Shri Ranjit Paul, GM (BBM), BSP. Thereafter, the third technical session on ‘Plate Rolling’ was chaired by Shri A K Singh, GM (Plate Mill), The fourth technical session on ‘Technological advances and Manufacturers’ presentation’ was chaired by Shri S K Mohapatra, DGM (Flat Rolling), RDCIS and Secy, RMOC. 21 technical papers along with 6 manufacturers’ presentations were presented during these 4 technical sessions. IMS Systems, USA, TIMKEN, Balmer Lawrie, BPCL and Mill Engg. (representing Hydrowatt, Switzerland and Braun, Austria) presented on their products and services. All the technical sessions were lively with discussions, suggestions and experience sharing.

The technical sessions were followed by a Recommendation Session chaired by Shri B Saha, GM Incharge Mills, BSP and Chairman, RMOC. A total of forty three (43) recommendations emerged in this session (Annexure 1). Thereafter, Shri M Ravi, CEO, BSP chaired the Valedictory Session, where briefings on technical presentations and accepted recommendations were made. The host, BSP was thanked by all participants for the excellent arrangement.

The participating organizations were: SAIL, RINL, Tata Steel, JSW Steel (Bellary & Salem), Essar Steel, Jindal Stainless, Hissar, Mukand and NMDC. The plants and units of SAIL which participated were BSP, BSL, RSP, DSP, ASP, ISP, SSP, CET and RDCIS. In total, 60 participants attended this meeting. The next RMOC meeting (52nd RMOC) was proposed, by the house, to be held at Bokaro Steel Plant.
