The Operating Committee on Rolling Mills was formed in the year 1974 to serve as a forum for exchange of information, operating experiences, ideas and views among the operators of various rolling mills (both long & flat products) in the country. Read More so as to bridge the communication gap between different steel plants in the field of hot and cold rolling. The committee initially consisted of the representatives from rolling mills of all the existing steel plants in the country and design organisations like MECON and CET. Presently the committee consists of 20 organisationsfrom across the country. R&D Centre for Iron & Steel, SAIL, Ranchi acts as co-ordinator for the committee activities. The meetings of this Operating Committee are held once or twice in a year, by rotation in different steel plants and R&D Centre for Iron & Steel, SAIL, Ranchi. The meeting are alternatively arranged for flat and long product mills. In each meeting, a general review of the performance of each individual plant is made and also a particular topic relevant to the operators is discussed. The topic for discussion is decided well in advance. Plant visits for the members are also arranged. Till date 49 nos. of operating committee was held in different steel plants across the country
